The Hyundai Palisade is a full-size front- or four-wheel-drive SUV that is the "commander-in-chief" of the South Korean automaker's lineup, which embodies a monumental exterior, modern and practical interior and efficient technology ... Its main target audience is family men with a good level of income, with several children who value comfort and safety in a car ...

The world premiere of a huge crossover, named after the wealthy coastal area of Los Angeles and positioned almost as a "premium model", took place in late November 2018 at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. In the summer of 2019, its sales started in the USA ... and in 2020, "he plans" to reach the Russian market.

In the Hyundai model range, the car replaced the Grand Santa Fe off-road vehicle (known as Santa Fe XL in the USA), but at the same time surpassed its predecessor in almost all directions: it became more impressive in appearance, enlarged in size, received a more presentable and functional interior with a seven- or eight-seat layout and "armed" with modern and productive "stuffing".

Outside, Hyundai Palisade really impresses with its scope, but at the same time it looks quite attractive, balanced and presentable, and its outlines contain both the “family” features of the South Korean brand and original design solutions.

The monumental front of the car is crowned with a massive octagonal radiator grille, surrounded by two-tier lighting equipment, and a raised bumper with a protective insert in silver in the lower part, and its solid stern carries elegant lamps located at the edges of the multifaceted luggage door, and a neat bumper with double trapezoidal tailpipes systems.

In profile, the crossover demonstrates a majestic, but not at all ponderous outlines with a long hood, well-developed "muscles" of rounded-square wheel arches, expressive "splashes" on the sidewalls and a darkened rear roof pillar.

"Palisade" is a typical representative of the full-size SUV segment and has corresponding dimensions: it is 4981 mm long, of which the center distance extends by 2900 mm, it fits in 1976 mm in width, and does not exceed 1750 mm in height. By default, the crossover "rests" on the road with wheels measuring 245/60 R18, and in the "top" modifications - 245/50 R20.

Interior

Inside, the Hyundai Palisade boasts a sleek, modern and thoroughbred design, backed up by carefully thought-out ergonomics, high quality workmanship and mostly solid materials.

Directly in front of the driver - a weighty multi-steering wheel with a three-spoke rim and a relief structure and a "smart" instrument cluster, on which two analog dials and a "digital cluster" coexist between them. In the center of the front panel rises a 10.25-inch touchscreen of the multimedia complex (in the "base" - 8-inch), while the air conditioning unit, the "automatic" button panel and the washer for selecting driving modes are located on the high central tunnel.

By default, the Hyundai Palisade has an eight-seat cabin layout, while the "gallery" is always designed to accommodate three passengers.

A comfortable three-seater sofa is installed on the second row, which can be replaced by two "captain's" chairs with folding armrests. Front riders rely on ergonomic seats with distinct lateral bolsters and long adjustment intervals.

All three rows of seats are equipped with an electric drive, and the first two are also capable of boasting heating and ventilation.

With a "full landing" the volume of the luggage compartment of the crossover is quite a decent 510 liters. The third and second rows are folded by means of an electric drive into a completely flat area: in the first case, the “hold” capacity reaches 1297 liters, and in the second, it exceeds 2000 liters (according to the American SAE standard).

Specifications

For "Palisade" on the Russian market, two power units are announced to choose from:

  • The engine compartment of petrol modifications is occupied by a 3.5-liter six-cylinder "aspirated" MPI with a V-shaped layout, distributed fuel injection, 24-valve timing and variable valve timing, producing 249 horsepower at 6300 rpm and 336 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm minute.
  • Diesel versions rely on a 2.2-liter "four" with an in-line architecture, a battery "power supply" system, a turbocharger and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, which, according to preliminary data, generates 200 hp. at 3800 rpm and 441 Nm of peak thrust at 1750-2750 rpm.

As standard, an 8-band hydromechanical "automatic" is installed on the car, which is capable of switching into parking mode without assistance when the engine is turned off or one of the doors is opened, and a front-wheel drive transmission.

For a surcharge (but in Russia by default), the car is equipped with an intelligent all-wheel drive HTRAC with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch that transfers torque to the rear axle wheels if necessary.

Dynamics, speed and consumption

The full-size SUV breaks down from zero to 100 km / h after 8.1-10.5 seconds, and accelerates to a maximum of 190-210 km / h (in both cases - in favor of the V6 version).

Gasoline cars require an average of 10.6 liters of fuel for every "hundred" run in mixed mode, and diesel - 7.5 liters.

Design features

At the heart of the "Palisade" is a "front-wheel drive" platform, borrowed from the fourth generation Santa Fe, with a transverse engine and a monocoque body, the power structure of which for a large part consists of high-strength steel grades.

At the front, the crossover has a MacPherson-type independent suspension and a multi-link architecture at the rear, but in both cases it has conventional springs, hydraulic shock absorbers and anti-roll bars.

The car is equipped with an active electric power steering, fixed on the rack and pinion mechanism, and on all its wheels are ventilated disc brakes, supplemented by ABS, EBD and other electronic "gadgets".
