In its third incarnation, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is still the same “classic frame SUV” of the mid-size category, which can be both a practical “family man” and an “all-climbable rogue” capable of overcoming almost any off-road ...

In early August 2015, the official presentation of this car took place at the Bangkok Auto Show. The car of "2016 model year" not only tried on a new "family outfit" of the brand and received a new diesel turbo engine under the hood, but also "surpassed" its "big brother" in saturation with modern technologies - the larger "fourth Pajero".

At the end of July 2019, a restyled SUV made its debut in Thailand, which, as a result of the first planned update, tried on a new "corporate mask", completely changed the front, received a seriously redesigned interior (the instrument cluster and front panel were changed) and "armed" with new modern options without undergoing with any technical metamorphosis.

The appearance of the "third" Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is subordinated to the Dynamic Shield design concept, and during its creation the "artists" of the brand obviously did not skimp on extraordinary solutions. That only is the front part with an X-shaped "pattern", strewn with an abundance of chrome, which is crowned with "two-story" optics with full LED filling and a "curly" bumper.

The dynamic profile of the SUV demonstrates the developed wheel arches of a rounded-square shape and the sill line that rises upward and is underlined by the same chrome. The "Sport" feed evokes associations with the conceptual pickup "GR-HEV" due to the rear lighting streams "flowing" to the bumper, encircling the characteristic trunk lid.

Size and weight

The total body length of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is 4825 mm, and the height and width, respectively, are 1835 and 1815 mm. The distance between the axles of the "Japanese" fits into 2800 mm, and the ground clearance does not exceed 218 mm.

When equipped, the five-door weighs from 2050 to 2095 kg (depending on the modification).

Interior

The interior of the restyled "Pajero Sport" of the third generation in its design fully meets the trends of modern fashion: a four-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a stylish instrument cluster with a dominant color display and a solid center console with an 8-inch monitor of the multimedia center and a dual-zone "climate" unit.

The decoration of the SUV meets with high-quality finishing materials - genuine leather in the seat upholstery and high-quality plastics, diluted with glossy and silver inserts.

By default, the "Japanese" interior is five-seater: the front seats have an optimal profile with good lateral support and wide adjustment ranges, and the rear sofa promises comfortable seating and unprecedented space even for three adult riders.

For markets in some countries, the SUV is offered in a seven-seater version with a folding third row of seats.

The trunk of the "third" Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, with a "five-seat layout", is really huge - its volume is 700 liters.

The rear sofa folds down in two asymmetric sections (resulting in a flat "rookery"), which increases the stock of available space to 2500 liters. The full-size "spare wheel" at the five-door is located under the bottom.

Specifications

For the car of the third incarnation, two engines are offered to choose from:

  • The petrol versions are "armed" with a 3.0-liter "aspirated" that meets the environmental standards "Euro-5", with a 24-valve SOHC timing belt, distributed injection and MIVEC electronic valve timing control technology, which generates 209 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 279 Nm of torque limit at 4000 rpm.
  • An alternative to it is a 2.4-liter diesel "four" 4N15 with an aluminum cylinder block, variable valve timing, Common Rail injection and a variable geometry turbocharger, producing 181 "mares" at 3500 rpm and 430 Nm of available thrust at 2500 rpm.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport of the 3rd generation is equipped with an 8-band "automatic" with manual mode and paddle shifters, as well as an all-wheel drive Super Select II transmission with a "self-blocking" Torsen, which by default distributes traction in a ratio of 40:60 in favor of the wheels of the rear axle and having a forced blocking mechanism. True, the turbodiesel is by default mated with a 6-speed "manual" gearbox.

Driving performance

The off-road potential of the car is supported by four modes of operation of the traction control system (for driving on mud, gravel, stones and sand), controlled by a rotating "washer" on the central tunnel.

The Japanese SUV also performs well in asphalt disciplines - in the maximum petrol version it accelerates to 182 km / h, overcoming the first "hundred" in 11.7 seconds.

In the "city / highway" mode, the five-door on average consumes 10.9 liters of fuel (the manufacturer does not announce the data on the diesel engine).

Outside the roads, this car, of course, feels more than confident: the angles of entry and exit, respectively, are 30 and 24.2 degrees, and the depth of the forced ford without any preparation reaches 700 mm.

Design features

Structurally, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is not much different from its predecessor - it is built on the fifth generation L200 pickup truck with a rigid frame in the body structure. On the front axle of the SUV, an independent suspension with double wishbones is used, and a continuous axle with coil springs is installed at the rear.

The shortened steering gear uses the classic hydraulic booster, and the braking package is represented by ventilated disc devices on all four wheels with ABS and EBD systems.
