In mid-April 2014, Kia presented the third incarnation of the Carnival minivan, which is known as the Sedona in the North American market, on the podiums of the New York show of the automotive industry. With its predecessor, the monocab is related only to the name, because it not only put on a bright "outfit" and received a much more modern interior, but also acquired a completely new platform and a bunch of all kinds of electronics. In the summer of the same year, the car went on sale at home, and reached the United States in early autumn (in Russia, unfortunately, it is not officially presented).
Outside, Kia Carnival is distinguished by a beautiful, modern and memorable look - the “family” style of the brand with a strict look of headlights and a “tiger nose” radiator grille matched the face of a large minivan. In profile, the car exudes confidence and harmony, demonstrating a monumental outline with embossed folds on the sidewalls, a smoothly sloping roof and a "wave" of the window sill line. A solid stern with beautiful lanterns, a large tailgate and a neat bumper completes the look.
The dimensions of the third generation "Carnival" are impressive: its body stretches 5116 mm in length, 1740 mm in height and 1984 mm in width. The wheelsets of the monocab are spaced at a distance of 3061 mm, and its clearance is 170 mm.
The interior of the “third” Kia Carnival looks attractive and its design meets the demands of modern fashion - a stylish “toolbox” with two large “wells” and a 7-inch display between them, a striking multifunctional steering wheel with a three-spoke structure and a prominent center console decorated with an 8-inch screen multimedia and exemplary units of radio and microclimate. Inside the car, high-quality finishing materials dominate, and in the "top" versions there are genuine leather and glossy decor.
The decoration of the Carnival can be seven or eight: in the first case, the second row is represented by two individual seats with separate armrests and retractable footrests, and in the second - a full-fledged sofa with hospitable shapes. In the front part there are comfortable seats with a well-developed side profile and wide adjustment ranges, and there are three seats in the "gallery".
Even with the maximum load of riders, the trunk of the third generation Kia Carnival is not "conventional" - 365 liters. And with the seats folded in the two rear rows, the volume of the "hold" increases to a fantastic 3435 liters, and thus a completely flat area for luggage is obtained.
Specifications. For the Korean minivan, two engines are provided, which are assisted by a 6-band "automatic" and the drive wheels of the front axle:
- The first option is a 3.3-liter gasoline atmospheric "six" GDI with direct "power", an aluminum block, a 24-valve DOHC timing belt and variable valve timing, which generates 276 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 336 Nm of torque at 5200 rpm / minute. This "filling" allows the one-volume vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 96 km / h after 7.8 seconds and "destroy" no more than 11.2 liters of fuel for the combined "hundred" track.
- The second is a 2.2-liter E-VGT diesel four-cylinder unit, equipped with a 16-valve timing belt, a turbocharger and Common Rail injection technology and developing 202 "mares" at 3800 rpm and 441 Nm of ultimate thrust at 1750-2750 rpm. In this version, the car "eats" about 9 liters of "diesel fuel" in mixed driving conditions.
"Carnival" of the third incarnation is based on a front-wheel drive "bogie" with a power plant longitudinally placed on it. The body of the minivan is 76% made of high and ultra-high strength steel.
The "Korean" has a completely independent suspension: at the front it is equipped with McPherson struts, and at the rear - with a multi-link arrangement attached to a separate subframe (transverse stabilizers and shock absorbers with amplitude-dependent characteristics are installed "in a circle").
The basic versions of the car are equipped with a rack-and-pinion steering gear with hydraulic control, and the "top" modifications are equipped with an electric amplifier with a variable ratio.
All wheels of the monocab are disc brakes: on the front axle - ventilated 320 mm, in the rear - the usual 302 mm.
Options and prices. On the Russian market, the "third" Kia Carnival is not officially sold, but at the same time it is imported into our country by "gray" dealers or privately.
In the US, the 2016 car is available in L, LX, EX, SX and SXL trim levels starting at $ 26,800 (~ 1.71 million rubles at the current exchange rate). As a standard, the minivan has six airbags, a multimedia complex, a radio with four speakers, power windows, a rear view camera, air conditioning, ABS, EBD, cornering brake assist (CBC), rollover risk reduction technology (ROM), and a bunch of other modern electronics.
For "full stuffing" they ask from $ 41,900 (~ 2.68 million rubles). Its features are LED headlights, a more advanced infotainment center, three-zone "climate", adaptive "cruise", tracking system "blind" zones and other bells and whistles.
