The Peugeot 508 is a front-wheel-drive mid-size sedan (aka “D” segment by European standards), which, according to the French automaker itself, combines the comfort of an executive car and the relative affordability of a vehicle for a family ...

The world debut of the three-volume model of the first generation, which replaced the Peugeot 407 family and the outdated 607 in all respects, took place in the fall of 2010 (at the stands of the Paris Motor Show) - it received an attractive design, impressive dimensions, a high-quality interior and a modern technical component.

In August 2014, the mid-size sedan underwent a planned update, celebrating the official premiere at an international show in Moscow. As a result of the modernization, the car has slightly refreshed the exterior, made minor adjustments to the interior, optimized the engines (making them more efficient and more economical) and added new options.

The designers have tried their best on the appearance of the first generation Peugeot 508 - their car turned out to be attractive, restrained and quite solid, without any excesses.

A slightly embittered front end with frowned headlights and a chrome "hexagon" of the radiator grille, a monumental silhouette with a dropping roofline and embossed wheel arches, powerful stern with graceful lanterns and a "puffy" bumper - the sedan looks quite serious and original for the D-segment, but at the same time and quite myself in French.

In length, the "508th" is extended by 4792 mm, of which 2817 mm falls on the distance between the wheelsets, reaches 1456 mm in height, and does not go beyond 1853 mm in width. The ground clearance of the machine is an optimal 170 mm.

And its curb weight varies from 1475 to 1615 kg, depending on the modification.

Inside, the “first” Peugeot 508 meets its inhabitants with a nice, solid, ergonomically thought-out and high-quality (this applies not only to assembly, but also to finishing materials) interior.

A laconic and informative instrument cluster, a three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel and a noble center console with a color multimedia system screen and exemplary panels of the audio system and "microclimate" - the decoration of the car in all respects corresponds to its "flagship status".

The front seats of the three-volume Peugeot 508 delight with a comfortable profile with well-developed side bolsters, optimal rigidity and a decent amount of adjustments.

On the second row there is a sufficient supply of free space in all directions and a comfortable sofa that can accommodate three adults.

With practicality, the "508" has no problems - its trunk has the correct shape, and in normal condition it can hold up to 545 liters of luggage. The backrest of the rear sofa folds in two parts, freeing up the opening for transporting long items. In a niche under the raised floor there is a set of tools and just a dock.

A wide range of four-cylinder power units is offered for the "first" Peugeot 508:

  • The gasoline range includes 1.6-liter naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines with distributed fuel injection, a 16-valve timing structure and a variable valve timing system, which generate 120-165 horsepower and 160-240 Nm of torque.
  • The diesel palette includes 1.6-2.2 liter turbocharged, battery-powered and 16-valve DOHC type timing gears, producing 115-204 hp. and 270-450 Nm of torque.

The power units are stitched with 6-speed "mechanics", "automatic" or "robot", which send all the traction to the front wheels.

The first "hundred" car conquers after 8.2-11.9 seconds, and the maximum gains 197-234 km / h.

Petrol four-door versions consume 5.8 ~ 7.1 liters of fuel in combined mode, and diesel versions - 4.0 ~ 5.7 liters.

At the heart of the first incarnation of the Peugeot 508 is the front-wheel drive platform "PSA PF3" with a transverse engine and extensive use of high-strength steel in the structure.

At the front, the car is equipped with an independent suspension with MacPherson struts (on the 204-horsepower version, a double-wishbone architecture is installed), and at the rear - a multi-link system. The sedan is equipped with electric rack and pinion steering and disc brakes on all wheels (ventilated on the front axle) with ABS and EBD.

In the Russian market, the four-door Peugeot 508, as of the beginning of 2018, is offered in two trim levels - "Active" and "Allure" (the first is announced only with a 150-horsepower petrol "four", and the second - with turbodiesels with a capacity of 150 or 180 hp. with.).

The basic version costs at least 1,890,000 rubles, and can boast: 16-inch alloy wheels, six airbags, ABS, ESP, two-zone "climate", "cruise", four power windows, light and rain sensors, fog lights, a multimedia complex, heated front seats, audio system and other equipment.
