Subaru BRZ is a rear-wheel drive two-door sports car of the compact segment, combining a striking design and a truly driving character (and all this - also for relatively affordable money), which is focused primarily on the driver ...

The full-scale premiere of the first generation Subaru BRZ serial coupe took place at the end of November 2011 on the stage of the International Tokyo Motor Show - the car was developed jointly by Subaru and Toyota and turned out to be the "twin" of the Toyota GT 86 model.

Throughout the history of its existence, the two-door has been repeatedly modernized, but the most noticeable updates happened to it in May 2016 and September 2018: in the first case, the car was slightly "refreshed" exterior, slightly improved the interior, added a little power to the engine and made the chassis more rigid; and in the second, barely noticeable aerodynamic fins were installed and the shock absorbers were optimized to improve handling. In this form, the sports car remained on the assembly line until the end of July 2020 - it was then that the model of the first generation "retired".

From the outside, the “first” Subaru BRZ looks like a thoroughbred coupe - beautiful, cocky and uncompromising. Embittered "physiognomy" with an aggressive look of headlights, a hexagonal "mouth" of a radiator grille and a raised bumper, a sporty fit and stately silhouette with a long hood, a rearward-shifted cabin and muscular wheel arches, frying aft with stylish lanterns and two "large-caliber" exhaust pipes - the car instantly attracts attention.

Size and weight

The overall length of the sports car is 4240 mm, its width is 1775 mm, and its height reaches 1285 mm. The center distance of the two-door is 2570 mm, and its ground clearance is 130 mm.

The curb weight of the coupe varies from 1256 to 1278 kg, depending on the modification.

Interior

The interior of the first generation Subaru BRZ looks very clumsy, especially against the background of such a bright appearance - a simple instrument cluster with analog dials and a monochrome display of the board computer, a three-spoke steering wheel with tides in the correct grip area, an uncomplicated center console with a 7-inch media system screen and three air conditioning knobs ... It should be noted that although mostly inexpensive finishing materials are used inside the car, in general, the quality of workmanship is at a decent level.

The salon of the compact sports car is organized according to the "2 + 2" scheme, and only children can more or less freely accommodate in the back.

The front riders in the dvuhdverke fall into the tenacious embrace of bucket seats with a pronounced side profile, sufficient adjustment ranges and heating.

The Japanese coupe cannot boast of practicality - in its arsenal there is only a 243-liter trunk, and even completely inhospitable: a protruding spare wheel and cheap trim.

True, the back of the second row is folded in two identical sections, which opens an opening for transporting long items.

Specifications

Under the hood of the "first" Subaru BRZ is an atmospheric gasoline engine with a working volume of 2.0 liters with a horizontally opposed four-cylinder arrangement, combined fuel injection, phase shifters on both camshafts and a 16-valve timing belt, producing 200 horsepower at 7000 rpm and 205 Nm of torque torque at 6400-6600 rpm.

In the "base" the sports car is equipped with a 6-speed "mechanics" and a rear-wheel drive transmission with a self-locking differential, but for an extra charge it can be equipped with a 6-band hydromechanical "automatic".

Dynamics, speed and consumption

The two-door rushes to conquer the second "hundred" after 7.6-8.2 seconds, and its maximum speed is 226-230 km / h.

The fuel "appetite" of the car varies from 6.9 to 7.8 liters for every 100 km of run in mixed mode, depending on the version.

Design features

At the heart of the first generation Subaru BRZ is a significantly redesigned Impreza platform, where the engine is displaced as low and deep as possible into the base. In the power structure of the two-door body, high-strength grades of steel are abundantly used, and its hood is made of aluminum.

On both axles of the sports car, independent suspensions with anti-roll bars are installed: in the front there are MacPherson struts with mirrored lower levers, in the back there is a multi-link architecture. The car is equipped with a rack and pinion steering system and an active electric power steering. All wheels of the coupe are equipped with ventilated disc brakes that work with ABS, EBD and other modern "gadgets".

Options and prices

The "first" Subaru BRZ was delivered to Russia until the summer of 2016, but the sports car was forced to leave our country due to low demand. In the spring of 2021, a car can be bought on the secondary market at a price of ≈1.2 million rubles, while new coupes are still being sold in the United States, for which they ask for at least $ 28,845 (≈2.2 million rubles).

Even in the "base" the car has in its arsenal: front and side airbags, single-zone climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, heated front seats, heated and power mirrors, cruise control, ABS, ESP, audio system and other modern functions.
