At the International North American Auto Show in January 2016, a "hot" version of the coupe-like crossover BMW X4 with the addition of the M40i appeared before the general public, which was officially declassified back in the fall of 2015 on the Web. The Bavarian semi-hat was an intermediate step towards a full-fledged M modification, showcasing not only sports accents in the exterior and interior, but also a high-performance six under the hood and sportier suspension settings against the background of the standard “sibling”.
The already dynamic and rather aggressive appearance of the BMW X4 in the M40i version is supported by an aerodynamic body kit around the body with large air ducts in the front bumper and a diffuser in the raised rear bumper with black exhaust pipes spaced around the edges, as well as silver accents. Rounding out the look are unique 20-inch wheels wrapped in different-sized tires 245 mm wide at the front and 275 mm at the rear.
The length of the BMW X4 M40i is 4671 mm, its width is 1901 mm, and its height does not exceed 1624 mm. The wheelbase of the "hot" coupe-crossover is 2810 mm, and its ground clearance is fixed at 204 mm. The "combat" weight of the "Bavarian" is 1840 kg.
Inside, the M40i differs little from standard models - a three-spoke "M-steering wheel", unique door sill and pedal linings and sports front seats with brightly cut support on the sides.
In other aspects, the cars have full parity - beautiful design, premium performance, five seats.
Well, and a fairly roomy "hold", the volume of which varies from 500 to 1400 liters, depending on the orientation of the backs of the rear sofa.
Specifications. But the main advantage of the BMW X4 M40i is hidden under the hood - a gasoline inline six with turbocharging, direct fuel injection and high-power spark plugs, which, with a working volume of 3.0 liters (2979 cubic centimeters), produces a herd of 360 “heads” at 5800-6000 rpm. It reaches its peak traction of 465 Nm in a wide range from 1350 to 5250 rpm.
The engine, in cooperation with the 8-range sports "automatic" Steptronic and all-wheel drive transmission xDrive "catapults" the crossover to the first "hundred" in just 4.9 seconds and maximum acceleration to 250 km / h (at this mark the electronic "collar" is triggered).
In the combined cycle of movement, the "hot" version of the five-door consumes an average of 8.6 liters of fuel for every 100 km of track.
Structurally, the M40i version is almost identical to the standard car (although it has some features) - independent front and rear suspensions (double-wishbone and multi-link design, respectively), rack and pinion steering gear with electric power and powerful disc brakes with circular ventilation.
At the same time, the coupe-crossover is distinguished by "special" steering settings and a comprehensively revised chassis with stiffer springs, adaptive shock absorbers redesigned in a sporty way and reinforced lateral stabilizers.
Options and prices. In the fall of 2016, BMW official dealers are selling X4 M40i on the Russian market at a price of RUB 4,050,000.
The standard equipment of the "charged" crossover includes six airbags, a premium audio system, natural leather trim, dual-zone "climate", 20-inch aluminum "rollers", the ERA-GLONASS system, LED optics, full power accessories, adaptive electronically controlled shock absorbers, start of the engine from the button and parking sensors "in a circle".
In addition, the car "flaunts" a full set of "M-lotions", ABS, EBD, ESP, the assistance system when starting up the hill and the darkness of other relevant equipment.
